Still remember when news hit that the inaugural local edition of MasterChef would be aired in Mandarin in February 2018?
According to a press release by Motion Content Group, which acquired the rights to produce MasterChef Singapore, stated: “As English rights were originally not available, the show was set to air on Channel 8. However, following further negotiations, MasterChef Singapore will now air for Singapore viewers on Channel 5 in English and reach a more diverse audience.”
The Mandarin fluency rating question has since been removed from the casting call notice as well.
The cutoff date for the casting call has been extended until midnight on 6th April 2018.
The MasterChef cooking competition television show originated in the United Kingdom in 1990 has seen local spin-offs produced in more than 40 countries. It pits amateur cooks against one another in various challenges.
It has since been adapted locally in 54 countries, including “MasterChef Asia” which was first broadcast across the region in English in 2015.
