Following Singapore’s trend of food creations with a local twist, Wing Zone introduces the newest addition to their menu – Rasa Rendang. Pssst, we heard that a new local flavour commonly associated with coconut, will be released in a few weeks’ time! Wing Zone is known for specializing in their flavour-fuzed wings and because the options are endless, you’ll be sure to always have something new to try on every visit. To help you better decide, Wing Zone has categorized their flavours into Sweet and Spicy, Traditional Buffalo, Sweet No Heat, Dry Rub and Wing Zone Favourites. As a Wing Zone enthusiast, I was really looking forward to sinking my teeth into their new creations.
The very first thing to decide on is the type of chicken that you want. You can choose from Original Wings ($8.45 for 6 pcs), Hand Breaded Wings ($8.45 for 6 pcs), Signature Boneless ($8.45 for 6 pcs), Tenders ($8.45 for 5 pcs) and Drumsticks ($8.45 for 2 pcs). For those of you who are wondering, the difference between Original and Hand Breaded is that the Originals are all-natural and do not have flour and breading added to them. For the Hand Breaded WIngs, the wings and the dipping sauce will be served separately. Just like how Starbucks have a secret menu, you can ask for a special request for the sauce to be mixed for you.
Sedap! One bite into the Rasa Rendang wings and I was greeted with a mouthful of flavours. It was sweet with a nice spicy kick that lingers. The iconic flavours and spices of Rendang (a spicy meat dish, originated from Indonesia) were definitely brought out in this dish. Generously doused in the aromatic Rendang sauce, the wings were fried to perfection – crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. We tried the flavour in the following variations – Original Wings, Hand Breaded Wings and Boneless. The Hand Breaded Wings were my personal favourite because they were comparatively more crispy.
If you love barbeque-flavoured anything, I’m sure you’d love their all-new Chipotle BBQ flavour. As I bit into the succulent flesh of the wings, the mesquite smokiness overwhelmed me. The meat was nicely marinated, well-seasoned and irresistible.
Besides burgers, Wing Zone has also recently branched out into serving wraps. We tried their Thai Chilli and Honey Q wraps. They feature lightly-fried tender chicken strips with your selected sauce and fresh lettuce, all bundled up cozily in a wrap. For the wraps, they were a tad bit too dry for me but you can go ahead and request for more sauce with your wrap!
Last but not least, we tried their housemade kettle chips. The chips come in 2 different flavours, Cool Ranch and Blackened Voodoo. We tried the Cool Ranch and they were incredibly crunchy and cheesy. We heard that the chips were put to the test by being left outside for 6-7 hours and they still remained crispy. Must-try!
Personally, I’d say skip the wraps and go straight for their wings. Wing Zone has designated every last Tuesday of the month ‘Flavour Tuesday’, where their wings are sold at only $0.50 all-day. Last Tuesday, their wings were completely sold out at Bugis+, so I’d suggest going early to avoid disappointment!
